Why our hair stops growing?

3 May, 2019No Comments

Almost half of men population has an alopecia problem, as well as one out of three women will lose hair notoriously during their lives.  There are several reasons for hair loss, as we will see on this post, after the analysis of possible factors and possible remedies to this growing problem.

Why my hair is not growing?

Genetic factors are the most important ones for hair loss.  Growth cycle of hair follicles develops in three phases.  Growth or anagenous phase, transition or catagenic phase, and hair loss or telegenic.  This cycle is not the same in everyone because sometimes the cycle lasts only two years, while in other cases, it lasts seven years.  The cycle terms are defined genetically, as well as other factors line curly, wavy or straight hair, a thick or fine hair, or growth speed.

Besides genetic factors, it is also decisive having a good nutrition to help or to complicate the growth of hair follicles.  It is a fact that a bad nutrition does not help hair growth, because it needs nutrients to grow and stay healthy.  That way, the absence of nutrients and vitamins that feed follicles is a good reason for hair loss.  Eating vegetables and fruits, as well as drinking enough water seem to be factors that help hair growth.  The absence of these nutrients will lead to alopecia.

Stress is another noticeable factor for hair loss.  A main cause for stress is dermatitis, an illness that is hard to see in plain sight, but it may be visible in the scalp, because of a series of uncontrolled factors, like a scalp irritation that causes hair swelling, which prevents from hair growing.  People with chronic stress have an even more severe hair loss.  That is why several stress-control treatments stop hair loss and help with its growth.

The last factor for hair loss is age.  Age does not forgive and, as the rest of the body, hair follicles suffer the consequences.  Opposing to what happens between teenage years and 45 years old when follicles grow constantly, when a person turns 50, follicles start a weakness period which provoke a hair loss, without an anagenous phase as a result of a lack of collagen.

In order to determine the real cause for hair loss, it is better to ask a dermatologist to stop such loss.  In case the patient wants to recover the hair lost, the only solution will be to perform a hair transplant through an own hair graft to recover our scalp´s look before hair loss.
