Although the intervention of hair grafting is extremely simple, the truth is that it requires a certain care which begins right after leaving the operating room. This is necessary to ensure that hair regeneration process is completed satisfactorily and with life-long results.
One of the moments that requires full attention is bedtime, when utmost care must be taken, since the scalp is inflamed and the transplanted follicles are still tender. That is the reason why during the first days the recipient area should not be rubbed, some medication should be taken and the intervened area should be hydrated and protected from the sun.
During the first night we recommend the patient to sleep with his head turned up so that the transplanted area does not touch any surface. It is usually used a band that, placed on the pillow, allows us to sleep in that position. The second day we will follow the same procedure.
On the second and third day we will apply serum or seawater to hydrate the area, that will have begun to heal. In this period cares will be reduced and we will be able to wash our hair applying small amounts of soap that we will not rub during application.
From the fourth or fifth day you can begin to wash your hair very carefully, still without rubbing, since the scabs will remain till they end up falling on their own. It is important to make sure that neither the pillow nor any part of the bed rubs our scalp while we sleep.
After ten days, when the implants sealed, you can return to the usual sleep positioning you had before having the graft. You can already wash your hair but, be careful, it is recommended not to wear a cap, helmet or any element that presses the scalp.
But now that the first month has passed after the intervention, we will enter the resting phase in which we are asked to continue protecting from the sun, without having to resort to any special care, even when we wash our hair. Hair will appear thin and will be gaining thickness until, after a year, it will become as thick and strong as the rest of the non-transplanted follicles that we have in our head.
During this first year it is important to keep the scalp clean, not to excessively rub it and avoid untangling it so as not to damage the hair follicles. In this way we ensure that each hair, grafted in Turkey, takes root and looks as healthy as natural.
As you can see, it is about taking special care during the first days after the intervention and then following some minimum recommendations that will not alter the life style or the routine of most of the people who decide to undergo a hair grafting operation to recover lost hair.
